The Economics of Internal Migration: Advances and Policy Questions

We review developments in research on within-country migration, focusing internal migration the United States. begin by describing approaches to modeling individuals’ decisions and equilibrium outcomes across local areas. Next, we summarize evidence regarding impact of outcomes, implications for labor market adjustment, interactions between housing markets. Finally, discuss efficacy policies aimed at encouraging conclude highlighting important unanswered questions that are critical informing migration-related policy.
